Collinsville, Illinois is most famous for its 20th century roadside Americana, Monk's Mound, and its reputation as the World Horseradish Capital. But Collinsville, IL, is also home to some splendid architecture. Situated in Madison County, the city was named after William Collins, a settler from Connecticut, in 1818. Located just 12 miles directly east of downtown St. Louis, Missouri, Collinsville is also close to Caseville, Maryville, and Fairview Heights. At the time of the 2000 census, Collinsville had a population of 24,707. While the annual Italian Fest and Horseradish Festival are the main attraction in Collinsville, the Giant Catsup Bottle (a water tank in the shape of a ketchup bottle) is also a very popular feature in the city's landscape.
