As a suburb of Chicago (2.9 million residents), Addison, IL enjoys many of the cultural entertainment outlets associated with this major Midwestern metropolis, including sporting events, excellent shopping, museums, and fine dining. Addison itself also has various events such as a Christmas tree lighting, charity balls, farmers' markets, and book fairs.

Blue-collar workers make up a substantial sector of Addison's workforce.

However, changes in the business landscape are helping to create more white-collar jobs in the area. Because approximately 23% of the town's population commutes daily to nearby Chicago, Addison is hoping to capitalize on the skilled labor by opening up its own infrastructure, with the hopes of attracting businesses away from the Windy City. Currently, Addison offers a wide variety of business incentives, including low-interest loans for facade renovation, signage improvements, disabilities construction, and landscaping.
