Well before these championships helped put Norcross on the map, the city was popular among Atlanta's elite because of its cooler temperatures and higher elevation. Historic Norcross is still full of luxurious vacation homes built in the 19th century. To this day, some of Atlanta's elite still escape to Norcross during the hottest months of the summer in order to cool off and relax in this relatively sleepy suburb.
The median per capita income for Norcross is just below $20,000 a year. Household income approaches $45,000 annually. Roughly two-thirds of adults over the age of 25 possess a high school degree and about 23% possess a bachelor's degree or higher.
Norcross is largely an IT manufacturing town, with the bulk of the jobs provided by major employers like American Megatrends, BIOS (motherboard manufacturer), Digitrax (model railroad manufacturer), Micromeritics (maker of various small particle analysis instruments), and Unisource (a distributor of paper, packaging, and facility supplies). The local government and school system also provide a sizable number of jobs.
