ARTICLE: Duluth In-Depth
Duluth, Georgia is a 22,000-resident city nestled in the greater Atlanta metropolitan area (population 4.25 million). Fulton County and Forsyth County, while technically outside Duluth city limits, are often considered a part of the Duluth region. Despite its relatively small size, Duluth is home to major employers like Roper Industries, Barco, AGCO, and World Financial Group. As a result, Duluth has a fairly robust economy that provides a per capita income of nearly $30,000 a year ($60,000 a year per household).

Duluth is a rapidly developing suburb that provides easy access to Atlanta, thanks to its proximity to Interstate 85. However, Atlanta residents frequently find themselves coming out to Duluth in order to take advantage of the excellent shopping offered by Gwinnett Place Mall. In addition, popular tourist attractions like the annual Fall Festival (which draws crowds of 30,000 visitors or more), Stone Mountain, and Aurora Theater help bring in additional revenue. For sports enthusiasts, Duluth is home to the Gwinnett Gladiators, the Bellsouth Classic tournament, and the occasional PGA tournament (most recently in 2001).

As Atlanta's urban sprawl places greater strains on the surrounding suburban areas, Duluth's importance will only become more pronounced. Already, Duluth is home to over 1,600 businesses, and city officials expect this number to increase substantially in the coming years. Duluth's home page aptly details what local residents think of Duluth. They call it a "City with a Vision."
