ARTICLE: Decatur In-Depth
As part of the Atlanta metropolitan area (4.25 million residents), Decatur, Georgia enjoys all of the benefits of suburban living and all the perks of a major city. With only 18,000 residents, Decatur has managed to hold onto its small-town feel and Southern charm without too much difficulty. Decatur's motto "A City of Homes, Churches, and Schools," says it best.

When Atlanta, GA hosted the Olympics in 1996, Decatur underwent radical renovations in order to attract more tourist dollars. 10 years later, the city is still bustling with business activity, both in the commercial districts and in historic downtown Decatur. Nearly half of its residents over 25 hold a bachelor's degree or higher, and the per capita income is almost $30,000 a year. Health services provide a sizable portion of all Decatur jobs, with DeKalb Medical Center serving as the largest employer in the region.

Points of interest in Decatur, GA include the historic downtown, several shopping districts, a vibrant nightlife, and close proximity to Atlanta. In fact, Decatur's relationship with Atlanta is so strong that nearly half of the population commutes between the two. This trend will only continue as the housing market in Atlanta becomes more competitive, thus, driving people out to suburban areas like Decatur, Alpharetta, Kennesaw, College Park, Marietta, and Peach Tree City.
