ARTICLE: Alpharetta In-Depth
Located in Fulton County (population 816,000), Alpharetta, Georgia lies on the outskirts of the Atlanta metro area. Alpharetta has a population just under 60,000, but is home to major companies like UPS Supply Chain Solutions, E*TRADE, AT&T, Verizon, and Lucent. Because of this, Alpharetta city officials are devising ways to expand the city as increased investment and labor drive up the current population.

The city employs over 120,000 people, twice the local population. 70,000 of these jobs were created in the last five years. This is one of the reasons why Alpharetta exploded from 3,000 residents in 1980 to its present size today. By all accounts, Alpharetta is extremely business-friendly and hopes to make room for even more businesses in the near future. Currently, more than 3,600 individual businesses operate within city limits.

Alpharetta is a very affluent city, with a per capita income of almost $40,000 a year. Household income is just over $70,000, and the average price of a house ranges anywhere from $225,000 to $300,000, twice the national average.

Local highlights of Alpharetta, GA include a historic downtown area, Equestrian Center, numerous parks, and a new 1.3 million-square-foot shopping mall. In addition, Alpharetta hosts a series of community events, such as the annual Christmas tree lighting, Easter egg hunt, and Mexican fiesta pool party.
