ARTICLE: Pinellas In-Depth
Founded in 1914, Pinellas Park, Florida has grown to a population of roughly 46,000 residents in the past 90 years. One of the fastest-growing cities of Pinellas County, the city has quickly earned a reputation in the Tampa Bay area as a festival haven due to its yearly "Country in the Park," which rivals even the Florida State Fair and the Florida Strawberry Festival.

Although neighboring St. Petersburg and Clearwater, FL account for the majority of Pinellas County's 920,000 residents, the city of Pinellas Park still boasts a robust economy. The two largest employers are the local public school system and Freedom Village, a major apartment complex that accounts for over 5,000 employees. Per capita income in the city was just over $20,000 in 2000, close to the national average; household income topped $50,000.

Although Pinellas Park hasn't fully escaped globalization, it has managed to hold steadfast to its small-town roots. Every year, the local firefighters still hold chili cook-offs, and the community calendar lists events ranging from storytelling to holiday parades to orchestral events.

Because of Pinellas Park's relatively small size and incredibly active school community, it's likely that future business developments will be geared towards education, learning, and the arts. In addition, city leaders might eventually turn to tourism because of Pinellas Park's unique geographical location within Tampa Bay. In a bid to attract more revenue dollars, they plan to invest more heavily in the various homegrown festivals that have already attracted scores of visitors year after year.
