ARTICLE: Miramar In-Depth
Miramar, Florida, located within Broward County and the Fort Lauderdale metro area, has a population of 101,486 residents. But with a 46% growth in population since the year 2000, the city certainly lives up to its official motto of "Beauty and Progress." It is bordered by Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, West Park, and Miami-Dade County to the south. The name itself, Miramar, is derived from Spanish meaning "sea view."

The town boasts a diverse population; 43% of residents are African-American and 29% Hispanic. Local cost of living is 20% higher than the U.S. average, but the local average per capita income of $34,278 offsets the problem. This per capita income rate has been increasing at a rate of 8.9% annually, 19% faster than the national average growth rate.

The largest employment industries in Miramar employ 17.8% of the population and include:
  • Education
  • Health
  • Social services

Miramar's convenient location between Fort Lauderdale and Miami-Dade County also means there are plenty of job opportunities in the surrounding areas without suffering through a long commute. In addition to the recent progress, Miramar does also live up to the other half of its motto, "Beauty," with its location on Florida's Emerald Coast and proximity to South Walton's beach communities.
