Largo, Florida, lies within Pinellas County and is a part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area. It has an approximate population of 71,704 people, which has grown 3.22% since the 2000 census. The per capita income of Largo residents is $20,838, which is below the national average. However, within the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, the average personal per capita income is far higher at $31,677. This number has been growing at a rate of 9.2% annually, which is 23% higher than the national average growth rate. In addition, the cost of living within Largo is 1% lower than the national average, and the unemployment rate is 2% lower, so this addresses some of the imbalance. Agriculture was the major employer in Largo until the 1960s, but since then has been on the decline.
