Suffield, Connecticut, lies on the Connecticut River between Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA. Although a small town, with a population of 13,555 in 2000, its location between two states and near the Bradley International Airport makes it an attractive place for business. The average personal income of Suffield residents in 2004 was $40,880. This is 24% more than the average American earns, and this rate has been growing across Hartford County at a rate of 6.8% annually since 1969. According to the 2000 U.S. census, the top industries in Hartford County are: Education Health Social services Manufacturing These industries continue to draw residents of Suffield, where 84% of the population has finished high school and 31% possess at least a bachelor's degree. Known as the "Insurance Capital of the World," Hartford County has seven major insurance firms that employ many Suffield residents. The area also has several high-tech manufacturing firms for: Aircraft engines Nuclear reactors Space suits Missile components The town's most popular event is Suffield on the Green, where civic organizations provide booths of food, information, and even games. This area of the town is historical, filled with 18th and 19th century residences, and thousands of people fill the green each year for this occasion.
