New Britain, Connecticut, also known as "The Hardware City" for its dominant role in hardware manufacturing in the early 1900s, is located within two hours of both Boston, MA and New York, NY. Established in 1754, New Britain has an estimated population of 71,254 people within a 13-square-mile area.

In 2005, New Britain's service sector accounted for 44% of the total businesses, followed by trade and construction. The top five major employers in 2006 were New Britain General Hospital, City of New Britain, Central CT State University, Hospital for Special Care, and Tilcon Connecticut, Inc. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the 2005 estimated per capita income was $19,817.

The city is home to the New Britain Museum of American Art, which was established in 1903 and designated "the first museum of strictly American art in the country," according to city history. Located within a historic house, the museum possesses over 4,300 works of art. Other museums in town include the New Britain Youth Museum and the New Britain Industrial Museum.

New Britain has an active performing arts community which includes the New Britain Symphony Orchestra, the Hole in the Wall Theater, and the Repertory Theatre of New Britain. For sports fans, New Britain has a Double-A baseball team (the Rock Cats) and the Stanley Golf Course. The area's numerous parks are a great way to enjoy the lovely New England scenery.
