Hamden, Connecticut is located in the south central region of the state between New York and Boston. Hamden, whose origins date back to 1638, has an estimated population of 58,150 and is nicknamed the "Land of the Sleeping Giant."

According to the 2000 U.S. Census, the per capita income for Hamden was $25,175, and 60% of the workforce was employed. The top business sectors for the area are services, trade, and construction. The five largest employers in 2005 were Hamden Town & Schools, Quinnipiac College, Harborside Health Care – Madison, Shaws Supermarket, and Area Cooperative Educational Services.

Hamden is home to the Eli Whitney Museum and offers performing arts venues such as the Hamden Symphony Orchestra and the nearby Yale Repertory Theatre. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike local trails within the Sleeping Giant State Park or take on the 23 mile Quinnipiac Trail. Canoe or fish Lake Wintergreen and visit the Pardee Rose Garden.
