San Diego was recently named one of six centers of technology and science innovation and those with technology or communications experience should be able to find a job at one of the many communications and software companies including:
- Nokia
- Motorola
- Ericsson
- Texas Instruments
- Qualcomm
San Diego was also named the top biotechnology cluster in the US in 2004, and it is no surprise that the largest population of Nobel Prize winners for science live here. The biotech industry employs over 32,000 people and the following major companies are based in the area:
- IDEC Pharmaceuticals
- Gen-Probe
- Invitrogen
Nearly half of the population of San Diego owns their homes, and the per capita income is a rather high $37,965, making it a solid place to raise a family. And those families are quickly growing; according to the US Census Bureau, the population of San Diego rose 3.5% between 2000 and 2003. With jobs galore and room to spare, San Diego, CA is a growing city with open arms to new residents.
