Newport Beach, California is located in Orange County, on the Southern California coast. The city has a population of about 70,000, and is well known for its beaches and surfing. There are 6.2 miles of beaches in the city. Though Newport Beach is charming, it is often overlooked by tourists and is less crowded than other locations on the coast. Recreation opportunities abound in Newport Beach. It hosts a wildlife sanctuary called The Back Bay. Visitors and residents can golf, or they may kayak, row, or canoe in the various waterways around the town. The Catalina Flyer, a 500-passenger high-speed ferry, makes daily runs to the Balboa Peninsula. The historic Balboa Pavilion, which was established in 1906, currently houses marine recreation businesses and a new restaurant. The Balboa Fun Zone consists of an arcade, shops, a Merry-Go-Round and bumper cars.
