| ARTICLE: Pharmacy In-Depth |
Pharmaceutical
Pharmaceutical companies have provided thousands of medicinal products to the public, aiding millions of people suffering from disease and illness. As a pharmacy technician, you'll gain hands-on experience learning drugs and their uses while distributing them directly to patients. Often, as a technician, you address patient concerns and provide instructions regarding prescriptions. If you work as a pharmacy assistant, you work closely with the pharmacy technician, but your focus is primarily clerical, answering phones, and restocking shelves. If you have previous experience working in a hospital or community pharmacy, this experience will help you secure a pharmaceutical position.
Work Environment
Pharmacy technicians and assistants work in hospitals, grocery stores, or in nursing homes, filling orders and providing medical information. Most employers prefer formal pharmacy technician training, involving lab work, medical terminology, and pharmacy law. This certification generally takes two years and upon receiving the title Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), you will be qualified to take on the challenges of the pharmaceutical field. Becoming a pharmacy technician or pharmacy assistant means you will be an essential member of the medical field. Many campus-based local community colleges and technical schools offer programs and certification in the pharmaceutical field.
