Roseville is in the Sacramento metropolitan area, about 16 miles north of Sacramento, the state capital of California. Historically, Roseville was home to the Maidu Indians, but with the discovery of California gold in 1849, Roseville was settled by Americans moving west. Roseville was built at the intersection of the Central Pacific and California Central rail lines. Today, it is the home of an annual One Root festival, drawing from cultures around the world to celebrate the arts.

In early 2005, Roseville's population was a little over 100,000 people. With a growth rate of 38 percent, Roseville is still one of the fastest-growing areas in the state.
