Career Training in Malden, MA--Find Accredited Colleges and Universities

Published: November, 2010

Malden, Massachusetts was settled by Puritans on the land that they purchased from Pawtucket Indians in 1629. The town originally was called "Mystic Side," but later took its name from the English town of Malden, birthplace of an early American settler. Home to historic colonial churches, Malden enjoys a Revolutionary heritage with the distinction of being the first town to call for independence from Britain.

Today's Malden is connected by two local metro stations to downtown Boston. Maldonians have direct access to the Boston region's interstate highways, airports, and railroad routes, although there is no longer direct Amtrak service to the town. The city has diverse and extensive recreational facilities and is located near popular New England beaches.

The median income for a Malden household as of the 2000 Census was $45,654, just a bit lower than the national average of $46,242. Top Malden employers include:
  • Hallmark Health Home Care
  • Kesav Infosys, Inc.
  • Neighborhood Health Plan
  • Faulkner Medical Lab
  • New England Coffee Co.

In all, Malden is home to approximately 1,800 businesses. While manufacturers, service industry, and banking institutions make their home in Malden, the major employers belong to health care and medical tech industries.
