The city of Hilliard, Ohio is a part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Columbus lies just 10 miles to the southeast, and is home to many colleges, trade schools and universities of all sizes. In 2005, the population of Hilliard was estimated to be just over 25,000.

The biggest employers in Hilliard are retail stores like Lowe's and Kroger Foods, which employ 18% of Hilliard's workers. The city government is committed to growth in the business sector and recently broke ground on a new office for the Credit Union of Ohio. A new highway interchange is nearing completion and will create 300 acres for the development of office space.

Hilliard has an active community arts scene with a theater group that performs plays and musicals year-round, and a series of free summer concerts that take place in local city parks. There is also a yearly street fair that features a car show and art exhibition. The historic district along Norwich Street is home to many buildings featuring interesting architecture.
