| ARTICLE: Chef Training In-Depth |
One of the most prestigious careers in the culinary world is that of the professional chef. It's also a job that requires extensive chef training and a passion for food. A professional cook can have a variety of jobs, including creating recipes, preparing meals, and overseeing the kitchen staff at a fine restaurant. Holding a degree is always beneficial to move up in a professional cookery, but going through chef training and learning the basics of chopping, seasoning, and preparation skills is essential. If you are passionate about creating a dish that will please, then getting your feet wet in a kitchen is the first step to becoming a professional chef.
Culinary School If providing a fine dining experience found only at a five-star restaurant is what you crave, then getting your degree from a culinary institution is necessary. Often, in order to become a professional cook, you will need to attend a two or four-year program in a culinary program in order to secure the chef training you will need. You might take classes in food safety, sauces, and meat preparation. Once you have put in your time working as an apprentice to a professional chef or head cook, you will be able to navigate your own kitchen and prepare your own recipes. No educational program can guarantee salary rates, but salaries for head chefs can increase considerably, once you've learned the ropes.
