| ARTICLE: Advertising In-Depth |
Has an interesting billboard or magazine advertisement ever stolen your focus with an interesting image or message? Commercial art is frequently used in advertising and is one of the most effective ways of getting product and service information to the consumer in a creative way. If you are a gifted artist with an ability to focus on the interests of the public, perhaps a career in advertising and commercial art is perfect for you. While having raw talent is a prerequisite in any artistic field, receiving formal training at campus-based institution that will provide both art courses and advertising and marketing instruction is helpful.
Experience is key
As an artist dealing with advertising firms, much of your work will be on a contract basis, which requires building a base of clients from the beginning. Establishing your name in commercial art can be a challenge and much of your success depends on your portfolio and experience through training. For this reason, attending a school that will not only provide academic training but also help you find fieldwork with an advertising firm will move you ahead. Commercial art lends itself to creative freedom and variety.
