| ARTICLE: Game Art Design In-Depth |
Do you find hours of entertainment by playing video games? Most game designers actually began their careers as a result of their passion for digital entertainment. Sales of game software reached more than $6 billion in 1999, according to NPD Interactive Entertainment Services, and interest in game development continues to grow. While digital entertainment relies heavily upon a seasoned player's knowledge of what works, a tremendous amount of skill and artistic vision is also involved. Simulation begins with brainstorming and evolves through writing stages and testing before game development is complete.
Skills and Training Being a strong communicator is invaluable to the game design industry. You must be able to write and articulate your ideas and convince others of their entertainment value. It is also critical that you understand computer programming and software design, as these are the building blocks of simulation. Also, because game development is competitive, getting a degree and securing relevant experience is essential. Campus-based design schools can help foster important artistic skill as well as provide crucial internship experiences. These training opportunities will help you develop game design technique and learn how to market your skills to the entertainment industry.
