| ARTICLE: Animation In-Depth |
Animation design appeals to both young and old audiences and is perhaps one of the most captivating professions available through digital media. Memorable Pixar films such as "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles" are highly successful because of the artist's ability to use digital media and creativity to bring inanimate objects to life. While these artists bring many raw gifts to the table, animation design firms such as Pixar require an academic arts degree and previous experience working in flash in a digital media firm.
Competitive Field Because animation is constantly evolving and drawing on new technologies, it's also a very competitive industry. Art institutions will help hone fundamental skills as well as introduce new computer technologies such as flash and digital media. You'll not only learn animation design techniques, but you'll begin to understand how character movement takes shape on the screen. Many campus programs often help you intern at various design firms in your area. With a hands-on program, you'll learn how to take your animation design through stages, just as Pixar does: - Development
- Creating the story line
- Pre-production
- Post-production
Having experience in a digital media setting is the most effective way of putting your knowledge to work. And you might even have employers vying for your services.
