Managerial Accounting Degree Programs Online

An online degree in managerial accounting (sometimes called cost accounting or management accounting) focuses on making sure that companies stay within budget, invest for the future, and meet their bottom lines. Although an associate degree is acceptable for this field, you'll need at least a bachelor's degree to apply for the certified management accounting (CMA) title.

Courses focus on accounting (including actuarial accounting and forensic accounting), statistics, investing, economics, tax preparation, bookkeeping, and auditing. Because so much of the coursework is theoretical, many students opt for managerial accounting degree programs online due to their greater flexibility and convenience. You still benefit from group discussions and lectures, but large portions of the curricula will be archived online for streamed viewing.

Job opportunities for those who have graduated from managerial accounting degree programs online should be plentiful due to increased government oversight in the wake of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Managerial accountants play an important role in preventing fraud, embezzlement, bribery, and other unethical business practices.
