Question
I love math and money and would like a job involving both. I am getting ready to start college and want to pursue a degree in something which will help me secure a job. Any ideas?
Answer
Several! Math and money can be a powerful combination, especially if you can excel in school. Let's look at a few categories that you can consider:
- Technology. These would include areas such as computer programming and various forms of engineering. Especially if you like a bit of science along with your math, this might be the way to go.
- Accounting. It's more than just tax accounting, which is a fine field in its own right although a bit limited. Corporate accounting can get you involved in wider fields of budgeting and financial strategies which can be very rewarding, intellectually and financially.
- Banking and Finance. If the financial markets interest you, the investment business has never been more dynamic. You can approach this field with a broad-based degree like economics, or more specifically through financial management.
