Question
I need to get started in the field of marketing. I have a B.A. degree in marketing from St. John's University. I really need some help on locating a lead that will get me on a path for success.
Answer
The great thing about marketing is that it's a very broad field, encompassing marketing strategy, market research, product management, sales, merchandising, promotions, communications, event management, and public relations. The reason I've listed all these different fields is that you need to look for job opportunities in several categories.
Spend some time browsing through job-search Web sites, using a variety of these labels as categories or keywords. Not only should you find ample opportunities, but you'll start to get a feel for which subset of marketing suits you best. Also, don't neglect the not-for-profit sector, where jobs such as community outreach and fundraising have strong marketing components.
That's some general advice, and now here's a specific critique. Your original question contained three typos, which I've cleaned up here for posting. Little things like that matter -- if communication is going to be your business, demonstrate that you deserve to do it professionally!
