Question

I just graduated with a Ph.D. in Educational policy at Arizona State University and am wondering the best way to get a job in the publishing world. I attached my resume and have a lot of good experience from graduate school but have decided I don't want to be an academic. How should I market my skills (presenting, writing, quantitative and qualitative skills, organization, and research)?

I currently work in IT at Arizona State University.

I look forward to your advice. Thank you very much,

Dr. Trisha Fritz

Answer

Hi Trisha,

Finding work in the publishing world demands that you take those skills and market them with a portfolio to demonstrate your work. There are several different techniques that you can utilize to create this portfolio, but you want to make sure that it clearly presents your capabilities within that field. It should be in both an online and hard copy format. This will allow you to exhibit your work when trying to land an interview and while going through meetings with potential employers.
