Waiting for Grad School

I am on a waiting list to get into grad school for physical therapy. I need to find a job in the meantime, but it's been hard knowing what exactly I can do with my bachelor's degree. I didn't think I would be waiting to get into grad school, so I am a little unprepared for what jobs I can apply for now.

Answer:
While this hiatus may be unexpected, try to look at it as an opportunity. It seems there are two major directions you could take:
  • Prepare for your physical therapy career by getting work experience that may prove relevant. Working as a fitness instructor at a health club might be one alternative. Another would be working in a nursing home. In addition to caring for the elderly, nursing homes are increasingly being used for people going through physical rehabilitation after surgery or injury.
  • Take some time to check out another type of environment before you commit to your career path. It may be a not-for-profit, or perhaps a corporate setting, but scan the employment ads to see what appeals to you.
Finally, one other reason why this break may be a blessing in disguise: at a time when more and more students are emerging from college with staggering debt burdens, you'll have a chance to build up a little capital to defray your next round of education costs.
