Question
I have a master's degree in human resource management, but I have been working in a bank for nine years as a credit analyst. I'd like to go back into HR, but how do I reintroduce myself into that field? I am excellent with people and would like to use my degree, but I'm not sure where to start.

Elizabeth George

Answer
Dear Ms. George,
Have you inquired about any human resources opportunities at the bank where you currently work? If there is an opening, you might apply to transfer and gain additional work experience in an environment you're already familiar with. Many companies prefer to hire from within.
If there are no current job opportunities available, you might try various online job posting sites, searching for jobs specifically in the human resources area. Your resume will reflect business experience and your interview will highlight your people skills. There are also numerous organizations and associations for human resources professionals (such as the Society for Human Resource Management and the National Human Resources Association) that provide plenty of resources, training and webinars.
Good luck!
