The good news is that healthcare management is an occupation that pays well above the national average. However, you may be swimming against the tide if you focus solely on employment with a non-governmental organization (NGO) or health consultancy firm. Not surprisingly, the biggest healthcare employers of management personnel are hospitals.

One approach might be to broaden your job search to include hospitals. This should not only increase your immediate employment prospects, but it may help get you where you want to be in a long run. It is entirely possible that employment with a hospital could get you the experience -- and the contacts -- that give you a better shot at an eventual career with an NGO or health consultancy firm.

A tactic in long-range career planning which is often valuable, and which might apply to your situation, is to inquire about employment opportunities with specific organizations that you'd like to work for in the long run. Even if you don't yet have the educational credentials and/or experience they are looking for, knowing what they require might help inform your educational and job choices in the interim.
