Burlington College
Burlington College offers a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Literature through independent study. The residency for the Independent Degree Program is a four-day stay in Burlington, Vermont at the beginning of each semester. Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Goddard College
Goddard College offers a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing through distance education. Students may choose to work in the areas of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, playwriting, screen writing, or cross genre. Short residencies are required. Goucher College
Goucher College offers a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction degree through distance education. Balancing original writing with critical reading, it provides instruction in the following areas of creative nonfiction: narrative nonfiction, the personal essay, memoir, literary journalism, travel/nature/science writing, and biography/profiles. The program is normally completed in two years and includes four semesters of work, three two-week summer residencies, and an internship. Courses are taken online during the regular academic year, and summer semesters of the degree period are completed at Naropa. A unique feature of the Jack Kerouac School, the Summer Writing Program is a month-long literary festival where low-residency M.F.A. students share writing workshops and seminars with their peers in the full-residency M.F.A. program in Writing & Poetics, discuss their work one-on-one with distinguished guest writers, and join the larger community of students and guests for panel discussions, lectures, and performances.
