Online Library Science Degree Programs

Indiana State University
Indiana State University offers the following online certificate programs in library and media services:
  • Undergraduate Minor/Certification - Library/Media Services
  • Graduate Certification - Library/Media Services

This program consists of 27 hours and offers students a highly individualized program of study. No residency requirement. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Mansfield University
Mansfield University offers an interactive online Master's of Education in School Library and Information Technologies. The program is focused specifically on school libraries although much is also pertinent to public libraries. As a Master's level degree program, students are expected to explore, experiment, and seek out effective learning experiences while instructors will serve as facilitators of the learning process. Note that there is a 5 day residency requirement. Mansfield's Master's in Education in School Library and Information Technologies is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Middle States Commission.

Online Connecticut State University System
The Connecticut State University System currently offers online degree programs through its virtual classroom, OnlineCSU. OnlineCSU offers the following library science degree program:
  • Master of Library Science (MLS)
    The MLS is offered by Southern Connecticut State University's Department of Library Science and Instructional Technology. The program integrates library science, information science and instructional technology and offers preparation for careers in various types of libraries, including academic, public, special, and school libraries, and a range of alternative information science occupations. The MLS Program is accredited by the American Library Association.

Individual classes are available at both the graduate and undergraduate level in a variety of subjects. Online degrees available through OnlineCSU are offered by one of the four Connecticut State Universities, which are accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Syracuse University
Syracuse University offers an online Master of Library Science degree. The purpose of the M.L.S. program is to educate students to be leaders in the evolution of the library and information profession in the 21st century, working in libraries, information centers, the information industry and other venues. The MLS program is accredited by the American Library Association and the university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Texas Woman's University
Texas Woman's University offers an online Master of Library Science. This 36-credit hour MLS program combines optional face-to-face class meetings with Internet-based coursework. The program is accredited by the American Library Association and Texas Woman's University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of Arizona
University of Arizona School of Information Resources & Library Science offers an online Master's Degree in Information Resources & Library Science. Students participate in coursework distributed over the Internet where they utilize a combination of tools including the World Wide Web, e-mail, chat rooms, electronic databases, and instructional software (WebCT). An American Library Association-accredited program.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science extends its top-ranked, ALA-accredited master's degree program to students through the distance learning scheduling option called LEEP. The program is accredited by the American Library Association and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of North Texas
University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences offers the following programs online:

  • Master of Science, Library or Information Science
  • Master of Science, Youth Librarianship
  • School Library Certification
  • Academic Certificate, Youth Services in Libraries and Information Settings

ALA accredited. UNT is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of Pittsburgh
University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences offers a FastTrack Master of Library Science degree program. FastTrack is an ALA-accredited program designed to meet the needs of highly motivated, independent learners seeking a career in the information professions. FastTrack is an ALA-accredited and the university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of Tennessee
University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences offers a M.S. in Information Sciences by Distance Education. The Masters Degree in Information Sciences prepares information professionals for work in all types of libraries and information centers. The degree program is accredited by the American Library Association and the university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee School of Information Studies offers the following online library science degree programs:
  • Bachelor of Science in Information Resources
  • Master of Library & Information Studies
