World Wide Learn Announces Quarterly World Wide Learn Top
Five
Photography courses attract many enquiries; aggregate traffic
increases 100 per cent; world's largest e-learning directory
continues to build global audience
CALGARY, AB -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 08/15/2003 -- World Wide Learn, provider of the world's largest directory of e-learning courses and online education resources, today announced this quarter's World Wide Learn Top Five. This quarterly ranking identifies the five subject areas that are most in demand by e-learners on the WorldWideLearn.com directory, and provides a snapshot of emerging trends in the e-learning industry. For the second quarter of 2003, professional training - Education Degrees, Language Courses, Medical Degrees and Psychology Degrees - were at the top of the rankings. New to the Top Five is Photography, which displaced last quarter's Vocational Training. This change is likely in response to the growing popularity of digital cameras and specialized photography software.
This quarter's World Wide Learn Top Five is based on an analysis of more than one million users from around the world - a quarterly increase of more than 100 percent - who viewed nearly two million online pages - a quarterly increase of 30 percent. World Wide Learn's demographic is also changing, with visitors searching for online courses on WorldWideLearn.com during this time period representing every continent. Just as in the first quarter of 2003, by far the largest contingent of visitors was from the United States (over 70%). However, World Wide Learn continues to make big strides in attracting a global audience. Substantial percentage gains in the number of visitors were recorded for Japan (52% gain), France (48% gain), Malaysia (47%), India (36%) and Germany (35%).
In response to increasing demand from e-learners and partners, World Wide Learn today also announced that is has added 98 additional categories to WorldWideLearn.com, including online degree programs and online training and courses, bringing its total number of subject areas to 241. World Wide Learn has also partnered with eight additional education providers, bringing the total number of universities, colleges and training companies featured on the site to 163.
"E-learning continues to attract the interest and attention of education providers looking for new revenue streams, as well as students from around the world looking to enhance their careers and expand their knowledge," said Angela Lovett, CEO and founder of World Wide Learn.
"There is no question that e-learning is gaining popularity," said Michael Brennan, who manages e-learning research at market intelligence and consulting firm, IDC. "Our latest research shows that e-learning spending in the corporate sector alone will grow 20 percent this year. Moreover, vendors have reported to us that consumers, particularly adult professionals, are increasingly leveraging web-based offerings to develop skills in many areas."
Site re-vamp enables easier access
In order to increase the size and scope of the WorldWideLearn.com
directory, while maintaining its reputation for credible,
easy-to-navigate content, World Wide Learn recently completed a
comprehensive redesign to enable e-learners to quickly and
efficiently find just the right course or degree program to fit
their needs. "Today, e-learners can find hundreds of online
courses, accredited degree programs, certificates, professional
continuing education and learning resources in 241 subject areas
offered by educational institutions, companies and individuals
from all over the world," added Lovett.
Some of WorldWideLearn.com's new functionality includes a tab bar at the top of the site that operates as an instant springboard for e-learners who have a good idea of what types of courses, skills or training they desire. In addition, e-learners can now browse ten additional categories for career training, and can access education degrees by subcategory, such as Corporate Training, Early Childhood Education, Educational Administration, K-12 Education, and Licensure. A new MBA section provides e-learners with quick access to a range of specializations, while a new category is now available, targeted especially for Canadians.
